Osborn Umahi, the 28-year-old son of the Minister of Works and former Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has officially assumed office as Chairman of Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.
Osborn took the oath of office on Tuesday following his victory in the August 22, 2026, local government election, where he contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The swearing-in ceremony was conducted by Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, and witnessed by political leaders, government officials, family members and other dignitaries, including the minister.
With his inauguration, Osborn formally begins his tenure as the head of the Ohaozara council.
During his campaign, the young chairman outlined an agenda focused on infrastructure development, youth empowerment, support for local businesses and improved basic services across the council area.
He also pledged to donate his salary and allowances throughout his tenure, saying his decision to contest the election was driven by a desire to serve the people rather than derive financial benefits from public office.
Osborn’s election was part of the APC’s sweep of the August 22 local government poll, in which the party won all 13 chairmanship positions in Ebonyi State.
An engineer and businessman, Osborn studied civil engineering at the University of Surrey in England before obtaining a master’s degree in finance and investment management from the University of Aberdeen in Scotland.
His father, David Umahi, served as governor of Ebonyi State from 2015 to 2023 before joining the Federal Executive Council as Minister of Works.
As Osborn begins his tenure, attention will now turn to how he translates his campaign promises into tangible development, particularly in infrastructure, youth empowerment and the delivery of basic services to residents of Ohaozara.
