The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has launched the Nigeria Police Force Vigilant App and the NPF–MTN Closed User Group (CUG) Network as part of efforts to improve the reporting of financial fraud and strengthen communication among police personnel.
The Vigilant App is designed as a citizen-focused platform through which members of the public can report suspected financial fraud, submit supporting evidence, track the progress of their complaints and receive feedback.
The NPF–MTN CUG Network, meanwhile, provides police officers across the country with secure and affordable communication services to support emergency coordination and operational activities.
According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the Vigilant App was developed by the Force ICT Department in collaboration with stakeholders in the financial services sector.
The platform is also designed to facilitate coordination between the police and relevant institutions in accordance with existing laws and procedures.
The launch was attended by representatives of the Central Bank of Nigeria, the Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, the Police Service Commission, Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS), financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria, Vigilant Technology Limited, TIMPH International Limited and other partners.
Speaking at the event, Disu described the two platforms as a practical step towards advancing the Force’s digital transformation agenda.
He said the Vigilant App would strengthen the police’s engagement with the public, while the CUG Network would enhance internal communication and improve the Force’s ability to respond effectively to emergencies and operational demands.
The IGP stressed that technology remained an important tool for modern policing, but must be deployed lawfully and responsibly, with proper regard for citizens’ rights, privacy, data protection and accountability.
The Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Information and Communication Technology, Fayoade Mustapha, said the initiatives demonstrated the Force’s commitment to adopting technology-driven solutions to improve service delivery, support police personnel and strengthen public engagement.
He urged Nigerians to download the NPF Vigilant App from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store and use it responsibly when reporting suspected cases of financial fraud.
The Nigeria Police Force also thanked the CBN, Presidential Committee on Economic and Financial Inclusion, NIBSS, financial institutions, fintech companies, MTN Nigeria and other partners for supporting the development and launch of the platforms.
