Nollywood actress and Media personality Toke Makinwa has advised Nigerians to date people within their financial class, arguing that financial compatibility is essential for healthier and more stable relationships.
Speaking on a recent episode of the MENtality podcast hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, Makinwa said significant differences in income and lifestyle often create unrealistic expectations and unnecessary conflicts between couples.
According to her, many men pursue relationships with women whose lifestyles they cannot comfortably afford, only to later accuse them of being materialistic.
She maintained that people should consider both age and financial status when choosing partners, noting that such compatibility can help reduce relationship problems.
Makinwa also expressed concern about women who support their partners during difficult times but later experience betrayal after the men become financially successful.
She argued that wealth does not necessarily change a person’s character but rather reveals who they truly are.
The actress added that many women fear investing emotionally and financially in relationships because they have witnessed cases where loyal partners were abandoned once their significant others attained success.
Her comments have since sparked conversations on social media, with many users debating whether financial compatibility should play a major role in choosing a life partner.
