The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has strongly condemned the Palm Sunday attack on residents of Angwan Rukuba, Gari Ya Waye, Jos North, describing the killings as a barbaric assault on innocent worshippers and defenseless civilians. The Christian body stated that the bloodshed has once again exposed the alarming collapse of security in parts of Plateau State.
The condemnation was issued in Abuja on Monday, March 30, 2026, by CAN President Archbishop Daniel Okoh, following the deadly attack that occurred on Sunday, March 29, 2026. According to CAN, armed men reportedly stormed the community in security-style uniforms and opened fire on residents. While local accounts placed the death toll higher, the Plateau State Police Command confirmed 14 deaths, as Governor Caleb Mutfwang urged calm during a visit to the scene.
This was not just another attack; it was an assault on human dignity, public safety, and sacred peace. CAN stated that Nigerians are tired of mourning and reading statements, insisting that those behind the massacre must be swiftly arrested and prosecuted. In a nation where violence too often interrupts worship, sleep, and ordinary life, Plateau has once again become a painful symbol of a country still bleeding without closure.
