President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned the recent wave of violent attacks in parts of Plateau State and Kaduna State, describing the incidents as “barbaric and cowardly,” while directing security agencies to intensify efforts to bring those responsible to justice.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President denounced the killings in Angwan Rukuba district of Jos, as well as the attack in Kahir village, located in Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The President said the attacks particularly the killing of residents in Jos and the abduction of wedding guests in Kaduna represent a grave assault on the nation’s values and security.
“Anyone who will sneak under the cover of the night and kill defenceless citizens… is a heartless coward,” Tinubu stated, warning that such acts appear aimed at provoking reprisals and escalating violence.
Tinubu further cautioned against the spread of misinformation, especially narratives suggesting religious motivations behind the attacks, noting that such claims could inflame tensions and worsen the security situation.
He directed security agencies to not only pursue the perpetrators but also clamp down on those spreading unverified information capable of endangering lives. The President emphasized the importance of intelligence-driven operations and urged security forces to act proactively on early warning signals.
“I urge our security agencies to be more proactive in preventing these attacks by acting on early warning intelligence,” he said, adding that all abducted victims from the Kaduna incident must be rescued without delay.
The President also highlighted ongoing efforts by the Federal Government to strengthen security operations through the acquisition of advanced equipment to track and neutralize criminal elements in real time.
Tinubu commended the governors of the affected states Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau and Uba Sani of Kaduna for their response in managing the crises and supporting rescue operations.
He expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery, while also acknowledging the safe return of two victims abducted in Kaduna.
The President reiterated his administration’s commitment to restoring peace and ensuring the protection of lives and property across the country, calling on citizens to cooperate with security directives, including evacuation and relocation measures where necessary.
The attacks in Plateau and Kaduna states are the latest in a series of security challenges confronting parts of northern Nigeria, raising renewed concerns over the need for more effective and coordinated responses by security agencies.
