Residents of Bara town in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State woke up to a devastating flood that claimed two lives and caused extensive destruction to property.
Reports indicate that the disaster resulted in the deaths of Aishatu Sagir and her granddaughter, Rahama Sagir, following heavy flooding that swept through parts of the community.
The flood also led to the collapse of several houses, leaving many families displaced and counting their losses. Livestock worth substantial amounts were reportedly washed away, while other valuables and household belongings were destroyed.
Affected residents described the incident as one of the worst disasters to hit the area in recent times, calling for urgent intervention from government authorities and humanitarian organizations.
Community members are currently assessing the extent of the damage as efforts continue to support families affected by the tragedy.
The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of communities to flooding, especially during the rainy season, and the need for proactive measures to mitigate its impact.
