Being Naked Is Not Beauty’ — Lady Remi Tinubu To Girls

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has encouraged women across the country to play a more active role in mentoring young girls, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds. She stressed that beyond financial support, young girls need guidance, strong values, and positive role models to help shape their future.

Mrs. Tinubu made this appeal on March 6, 2026, during an interfaith Iftar and Lent breaking-of-fast gathering in Abuja. The event brought together Muslim and Christian women, creating a platform for reflection, unity, and shared commitment to nurturing the next generation.

Addressing the women at the gathering, the First Lady challenged them to intentionally invest in the lives of young girls who may lack opportunities or support systems.

“I challenge each of you to take on a mentee,” she said. “Reach out to a young girl from an indigent background. Support her education through scholarships if you can, teach her good values, and guide her on how to grow into a responsible and confident woman.”

She emphasized that mentorship should extend beyond academics to include character development, self-respect, and cultural values.

Mrs. Tinubu also spoke about the importance of modesty in appearance, encouraging women to guide young girls on dressing with dignity and self-respect. According to her, true beauty is not defined by outward appearance but by inner character.

“Teach them how to dress well and with dignity,” she said. “Being overly exposed is not what defines beauty. Real beauty comes from within.”.

Ending on a light-hearted note, she joked that divine help would also be needed for men. “God will also help our men and help them control their eyes,” she added, drawing laughter from the audience.
Her remarks underscored the vital role women can play in shaping a generation of confident, value-driven young girls through mentorship, support, and moral guidance.
