A member of the Lagos Governance Advisory Council (GAC), Henry Ajomale, has vowed to work against the re-election of House of Representatives member Okey-Joe Onuakaluasi following controversy surrounding the lawmaker’s empowerment beneficiaries list.
The development emerged on May 8, 2026, after criticism trailed the publication of beneficiaries selected for overseas training programmes sponsored by the Oshodi-Isolo II representative.
Critics alleged that the list reflected ethnic imbalance and failed to fairly represent the diversity of the constituency.
According to reports, Onuakaluasi sponsored 29 beneficiaries for studies in nursing, cyber security, food processing, and related programmes in China and South Africa.
The controversy sparked reactions within Lagos political circles, with Ajomale reportedly insisting that the lawmaker should not return to the National Assembly in 2027.
The lawmaker has not publicly responded to the latest political backlash as of the time of filing this report.
However, the controversy has continued to generate debate over representation, inclusiveness, and political accountability in Lagos politics.
