A former Chairman of Ilaje Local Government Area and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Banji Okunomo, has praised Ondo State Governor , for approving a series of major infrastructure and development projects across the state.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Okunomo described the approvals granted at the recent Ondo State Executive Council meeting as evidence of the governor’s commitment to delivering lasting developmental projects that will benefit residents across the state.
According to him, the projects reflect the administration’s determination to accelerate infrastructure development, stimulate economic growth and improve the welfare of the people.
Among the projects approved by the council are the construction of a 2.38-kilometre flyover bridge along the Adegbola Junction–Alagbaka corridor in Akure, canalisation of the 40-kilometre Ugbonla–Awoye water channel with a spur to Idi Ogba in Ilaje Local Government Area, and the construction of concrete walkways in Obenla and Idi Ogba communities.
Other projects include the construction of the Zion-Pepe–Agerige Township Road, Bayo Phillips Road, Araromi Seaside Road and selected roads in Igboegunrin Town.
The Executive Council also approved the construction and rehabilitation of several roads across the state, including the Irele–Sabomi–Igbotu Road, Agadagba–Ile Ikiri–Igaligbo Road, Okumo–Igodan Lisa Road, Oba–Ikun–Afo–Idoani Road, Imo Arigidi–Agbaluku Road, as well as the rehabilitation of the Arigidi–Oke Agbe Road.
Okunomo said the approval of the Ugbonla–Awoye canalisation project and related infrastructure in Ilaje Local Government Area would have a significant impact on the economic development of riverine communities.
He noted that the projects would improve transportation, enhance commercial activities, attract investments and boost tourism in the area.
The APC chieftain also commended the state government for approving the rehabilitation of the Owena Multipurpose Dam, the upgrade of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic to a University of Agricultural Science and Technology, and the procurement of modern diagnostic and specialised medical equipment for the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital.
According to him, the initiatives demonstrate the administration’s commitment to strengthening critical sectors such as education, healthcare, water supply and human capital development.
While applauding the governor’s efforts, Okunomo stressed the importance of ensuring the timely execution of the approved projects to enable residents fully benefit from the interventions.
He called on stakeholders across the state to support the administration’s development agenda, expressing confidence that the projects would contribute to the overall growth and prosperity of Ondo State.
