Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has received the newly deployed Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, and called for reforms within the state police command, including the release of persons he described as political detainees.
Zungura assumed duty in Osun on Monday and paid a courtesy visit to the governor alongside senior officers of the command. During the meeting, the new commissioner pledged to work with the state government to promote peace, stability and public confidence in the police.
Adeleke said the state was yet to fully recover from tensions surrounding the August 15 governorship election and urged the new CP to rebuild public trust through professional and impartial policing.
The governor also called for closer cooperation between the state government and the police, stressing that his administration was seeking “no favour other than fair policing.”
Adeleke further requested the immediate release of several persons he described as political detainees, while urging the police to address outstanding security and human-rights concerns.
He also demanded disciplinary action against the Divisional Police Officer in Ikire, alleging that the officer had been implicated in a recent violent incident in which two people were reportedly killed. That allegation remains a claim by the governor and has not been established as fact.
The new CP assured the governor that he would be fair to all sides and work to address outstanding security concerns.
The meeting comes amid continuing efforts to restore calm in Osun following post-election tensions and recent violence in Ikire.
