Dino Melaye, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has called on President Bola Tinubu and his family to prepare to vacate the Presidential Villa ahead of the 2027 general elections, declaring that the ADC is poised to defeat the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Melaye made this assertion during an interview with Arise TV on Monday, expressing strong confidence in the ADC’s prospects for the 2027 presidential race. He stated that Nigerians are deeply dissatisfied with the current administration and will use the upcoming election as a mandate for change.
The former senator leveled sharp criticisms against the government, accusing it of failing to address critical issues such as hunger, insecurity, and the broader economic hardships facing the citizenry. He further faulted the administration’s handling of national finances, specifically citing excessive borrowing and alleged delays in both the implementation of approved budgets and the payment of contractors.
Melaye claimed that government contracts awarded in 2024 remain unpaid despite significant borrowing to finance budgets, and he alleged that the 2024 budget is still being implemented as of 2026.
“The winning strategy for the ADC is very simple. The people are with us. The people are tired of maladministration,” Melaye said, adding that Nigerians have grown weary of what he termed “lies, borrowing, and the failure to implement successive budgets.”
The ADC chieftain accused the Tinubu administration of fostering a disconnect between the government and the governed. He pointed to persistent hunger, rising insecurity, and alleged corruption as evidence of growing public resentment.
Additionally, Melaye criticized comments he attributed to President Tinubu regarding election rigging, violence, and ballot snatching. He argued that such rhetoric is inappropriate for a head of state and maintained that political leaders have a responsibility to set a positive example for the nation’s youth.
Predicting that the 2027 election will result in a change of government, Melaye urged the President and his family to begin preparations for their departure.
“And I’m telling you that the results will tell in January. The president and his family members should begin to pack their luggage and things from the villa, including those in the boys’ quarters of the villa, because there will be a change of government,” Melaye stated.
Melaye, who left the Peoples Democratic Party in July 2025 to join the ADC, previously served as the spokesperson for the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. His latest remarks come as political parties and opposition groups ramp up their strategies for the 2027 general elections, with the ADC positioning itself as a formidable challenger to the ruling APC.
