Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Benjamin Hundeyin, until recently the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), has been removed from his role by the newly appointed Inspector‑General of Police (IGP) Tunji Disu as part of a broader internal reshuffle at the Force Headquarters in Abuja. The development took effect on Thursday, 5 March 2026, barely six months after Hundeyin assumed the spokesperson position in September 2025 under former IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
The removal comes less than 24 hours after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu inaugurated Disu as the 23rd substantive IGP, following Egbetokun’s resignation and the leadership transition in the Nigeria Police Council. Observers say changes in key leadership positions are common when new command structures take over, as incoming leaders often assemble their preferred teams to align organisational priorities.
Hundeyin, a seasoned police communicator with experience as spokesman for the Lagos State Police Command and involvement in international missions, had led efforts to modernise force communications and enhance public engagement through digital platforms. His removal underscores how leadership shifts at the top can trigger personnel changes even in high‑profile departments such as public relations.
At the time of reporting, the identity of Hundeyin’s successor had not been officially announced, and the police hierarchy has not publicly detailed the reasons for his redeployment. Security analysts note that the move may reflect the new IGP’s intention to recalibrate the force’s communication strategy and reinforce discipline and professionalism within the NPF.
