A motorist, Abubakar Halilu, has been sentenced to three weeks in prison by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Wuse Zone 6, Abuja, for multiple traffic offences, including assaulting a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) marshal.
Halilu was convicted after facing charges of dangerous driving, driving licence violation, overloading, assault on an FRSC marshal, failure to wear a seatbelt and resisting arrest.
According to the FRSC, the motorist was arrested on Monday, September 14, 2026, during a Mobile Court operation conducted at the Life Camp Unit Command in Abuja.
The Corps’ National Spokesperson, Osondu Ohaeri, said Halilu was driving a Mitsubishi vehicle when FRSC officials apprehended him over the alleged offences.
The Corps further alleged that Halilu assaulted one of its marshals while resisting arrest, prompting his prosecution before the court.
Delivering judgment, Magistrate Theresa found the motorist guilty and sentenced him to three weeks at the Suleja Correctional Centre, with an option of paying a ₦30,000 fine.
The FRSC said the ruling underscored the importance of motorists complying with lawful traffic enforcement procedures and respecting officers carrying out their duties.
The Corps warned that violence, obstruction and resistance against its personnel during official operations would not be tolerated.
It also urged motorists and other road users to obey traffic regulations and cooperate with enforcement officers as part of efforts to improve road safety.
The FRSC said it would continue to combine public education, compliance monitoring and enforcement to promote safer roads across the country.
