Former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, has been selected by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) to contest the 2027 governorship election in Nasarawa State.
Adamu emerged as the party’s candidate at a direct primary held on Saturday, with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) monitoring the exercise.
The process ended with his affirmation through a voice vote after Musa Adamu Angba, who had previously emerged as the party’s candidate, withdrew from the race.
The development now puts the former police chief at the centre of the SDP’s preparations for the Nasarawa governorship contest.
Addressing party supporters after the primary, Adamu outlined some of the priorities he intends to pursue if elected governor.
He identified road infrastructure, healthcare and other basic public services as areas that would receive attention, particularly in rural communities across the state.
The former police chief also said his campaign would be tailored to the specific needs of residents at ward and local government levels.
Rather than relying on general campaign promises, Adamu said he would present specific plans for individual communities during the electioneering period.
“During the campaign, we will be specific about what we intend to do in every local government and every community,” he said.
