The Nigerian Army has rescued members of the family of the abducted Chairman of Maru Local Government Area, Zamfara State, Hon. Salisu Dangulbi, as security forces intensify efforts to secure the release of the council boss and other victims still being held by armed bandits.
The rescue operation was carried out on Sunday, July 26, 2026, following sustained military offensives and intelligence-led operations in parts of Maru Local Government Area and surrounding forests where the kidnappers are believed to be operating. According to military sources, the rescued family members were found during a clearance operation launched after the deadly ambush that led to the chairman’s abduction.
Hon. Dangulbi was kidnapped on Saturday, July 25, 2026, when heavily armed bandits attacked his convoy along a road in Maru Local Government Area. During the assault, several security operatives attached to his convoy were killed while attempting to repel the attackers, before the gunmen escaped with the local government chairman and some members of his entourage.
Military authorities said troops are continuing aggressive search-and-rescue operations across identified bandit enclaves, with additional personnel and surveillance assets deployed to track the fleeing criminals.
The Army assured residents that every available resource is being utilised to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted chairman and any remaining captives.
The latest operation underscores the Nigerian military’s renewed commitment to dismantling criminal hideouts in Zamfara State, which has remained one of the regions most affected by banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks.
Security agencies have urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with ongoing operations and provide credible intelligence that could assist in locating the abductors and securing the release of all those still in captivity.
