Young Progressives Party (YPP) governorship candidate in Adamawa State, Pharmacist Wafarininyi Theman, has unveiled a 17-point development agenda focused on security, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and economic growth ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
Theman presented his blueprint, tagged “Adamawa Rest Project,” in Yola during a media engagement, saying the programme was designed around evidence-based governance, accountability and direct participation of communities.
On security, the former lawmaker proposed a citizen-focused initiative, “We the People,” as well as the establishment of a State Security Trust Fund to support efforts to improve safety across the state.
Education and healthcare also occupy key positions in his proposed agenda.
The YPP candidate pledged to pursue a “No Child Should Be Left Out of School” policy and undertake reforms aimed at improving basic education facilities.
Theman raised concerns over the condition of some learning centres across the state, claiming that more than 58,000 children are currently learning in difficult and unconducive environments despite investments in the education sector.
In agriculture, he proposed the creation of a Ministry of Food Production, which he said would drive mechanised farming and help establish Adamawa as a major food-processing centre in the North-East.
He also proposed the establishment of the Gongola Regional Development Bank, describing it as a specialised financial institution that would support poverty reduction, access to finance and housing initiatives.
Youth development and women’s participation in governance also featured prominently in the agenda.
Theman said young people constitute a significant proportion of Adamawa’s population and pledged increased investment in skills development, modern technology and employment opportunities.
He also promised to promote greater participation of women in government and public affairs.
On governance, the YPP candidate pledged greater financial transparency and accountability across government ministries, departments and agencies.
He said his administration would also explore Adamawa’s tourism, cultural and sporting potentials as avenues for revenue generation, employment creation and economic development.
Theman said the state possesses substantial human and natural resources capable of driving development, but argued that stronger political will and active participation by residents would be required to harness them.
The former member of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, who represented Hong Constituency, is seeking to return to public leadership through the YPP.
He previously served as APC state secretary before moving to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and later securing the YPP governorship ticket for the 2027 election.
