Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike has declared that the 2027 election in Rivers State will be the easiest political contest he has faced, despite the political battles and alliances emerging ahead of the polls.
Wike made the statement on Monday, September 21, 2026, during an appearance on TVC’s Journalists’ Hangout, where he reflected on his political career and the challenges he faced in previous elections.
The former Rivers State governor said he had never experienced an easy election since beginning his political journey in 1999, citing the 2015 and 2019 governorship contests as particularly challenging.
According to Wike, his confidence about 2027 is based on his political record and relationship with Rivers people.
He challenged his opponents to explain what they would present to voters that would make them believe another political direction would be more beneficial.
Wike also dismissed claims that Peter Obi or Atiku Abubakar won Rivers State in the 2023 presidential election, arguing that election victories are determined by results from polling units and formal declarations, not social-media claims or rallies.
He said Rivers has more than 7,000 polling units across its 23 local government areas, stressing that isolated results cannot determine the overall outcome.
