‘You May Take the Envelope’ — Natasha Accuses Akpabio Camp of Media Plot

By Sunday Ameh

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has accused the camp of Senate President Godswill Akpabio of allegedly mobilising media platforms to circulate damaging materials against her.

The Kogi Central senator made the allegation in a Facebook post following the emergence of a video involving social media activist, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

Akpoti-Uduaghan shared what she described as a WhatsApp conversation which allegedly showed plans to circulate the VDM video through national newspapers and online blogs.

According to the senator, the purported conversation included a request for recommendations of national newspapers and blogs that could publish the material, as well as inquiries about the “cost implications” of the proposed media campaign.

Reacting to the alleged exchange, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the office of the Senate President of attempting to use media platforms against her.

“Dear Godswill Akpabio, Senate President of the Nigerian 10th Assembly… you may take the envelope and publish whatever Akpabio’s office sends to you,” the senator wrote.

She also issued a warning to the Senate President, saying: “S.P. Akpabio, know that the pits you dig for me, you shall very well fall into.”

The latest allegation comes amid the long-running public dispute between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Akpabio, which has previously generated political and legal controversies.

However, the senator did not identify the individual behind the purported WhatsApp conversation.

The authenticity, source and context of the alleged exchange could also not be independently established from the material shared by the senator.

Akpabio’s office had not, in the report, publicly responded to the latest allegation.
