Women from Bin-Per community in Ruff, Kombun District of Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, staged a peaceful protest following the killing of 24 residents by gunmen.

The women marched through the community carrying leaves and demanded urgent government intervention to protect residents from recurring attacks. They lamented the loss of husbands, children, relatives and other members of the community.

The protest came after an overnight attack in which armed men reportedly invaded homes in the community and killed residents.

Meanwhile, the 24 victims were given a mass burial on Tuesday, according to the President of the Mwaghavul Youth Movement, Kyesmang Jonathan, who spoke during the burial service.

Several other victims who sustained injuries are reportedly receiving treatment in hospitals, while the attack has left families grieving and communities traumatised.

Jonathan called on the government and security agencies to urgently strengthen protection for vulnerable communities, improve intelligence gathering and ensure that those responsible for the killings are arrested and prosecuted.

The incident has renewed concerns over insecurity in Plateau State and demands for stronger security measures to prevent further attacks.
