The internal crisis rocking Nigeria’s main opposition party has taken a dramatic turn, as the faction loyal to Nyesom Wike has reportedly taken control of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national secretariat in Abuja. The development signals a deepening power struggle within the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This development was reported on April 11, 2026, following months of legal and political battles between rival factions of the party.
According to party officials, a Court of Appeal ruling earlier in March 2026 had favoured the Wike-backed leadership, effectively strengthening their claim to control of the party structure and its national headquarters at Wadata Plaza.
The National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, confirmed that the faction aligned with Wike has now assumed authority at the secretariat, warning against any actions that could disrupt peace within the premises.
The leadership also called on aggrieved members to embrace unity and move forward in the collective interest of the party.
This takeover is the latest chapter in a prolonged PDP leadership crisis involving multiple factions, court cases, and competing conventions.
While the Wike camp appears to have gained the upper hand for now, the broader question remains whether the party can resolve its internal divisions in time to present a united front in future elections.
