The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied reports alleging that it failed to submit its presidential and vice-presidential candidates to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) before the official deadline.
The faction described the reports as inaccurate, maintaining that it completed the nomination process in line with INEC’s guidelines ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, said the PDP fully complied with all nomination requirements and experienced no issues during the submission process.
According to him, the party uploaded the names and particulars of its presidential and vice-presidential candidates to INEC’s nomination portal at exactly 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, 2026, well within the commission’s stipulated deadline.
“The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) successfully uploaded the names and particulars of its Presidential and Vice-Presidential candidates to the INEC nomination portal at exactly 11:50 a.m. on Thursday, 10 July 2026, in full compliance with the Commission’s requirements and within the stipulated timeline,” the statement said.
The faction argued that reports suggesting it failed to meet a key electoral requirement created a false impression and did not reflect the actual situation.
It stressed that election-related matters should be reported with accuracy, given their importance to Nigeria’s democratic process.
Mohammed further expressed concern that the publication was made without proper verification from the party, warning that such reports could mislead party members, supporters and the general public.
He reaffirmed the faction’s commitment to complying with the Electoral Act and all directives issued by INEC, adding that the party would continue to engage the electoral commission within the framework of the law.
The PDP faction urged Nigerians to disregard reports claiming it failed to submit its presidential ticket before the deadline and called for a correction, insisting that factual reporting is essential to maintaining public confidence in the electoral process.
