The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has confirmed that it will not field a presidential candidate in the 2027 general election, declaring its support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The party said the decision was a deliberate political strategy adopted by its National Executive Committee (NEC) after extensive consultations, insisting that its absence from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presidential nomination portal should not be interpreted as a failure to comply with electoral requirements.
APGA National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, explained that the party had resolved to endorse Tinubu’s re-election in what it described as the broader national interest.
According to him, the party has fully complied with INEC’s nomination process for other elective offices by successfully uploading the names of its candidates for the National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly within the stipulated deadline.
“We have not uploaded a presidential candidate because the National Executive Committee of the party has already taken a decision to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027,” Opara said.
He stressed that APGA remains fully involved in the electoral process despite not participating in the presidential contest, adding that the party’s immediate priority is to expand its representation in the Senate, House of Representatives and state legislatures.
Opara noted that all necessary documentation relating to the party’s legislative candidates had been submitted to INEC in line with electoral guidelines.
He also urged party members and supporters across the country to remain united and mobilise support for APGA candidates in the legislative elections while backing Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
