The crisis within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State took a fresh turn on Wednesday as party elders under the aegis of the PBAT Mandate Elders Forum said they were unaware of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s reported reconciliation committee ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The elders also accused the governor of lacking sincerity in efforts to reconcile aggrieved members of the party.
Speaking on behalf of the group, its Chairman, Demola Ijabiyi, questioned Aiyedatiwa’s commitment to President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid, alleging that the governor’s political mobilisation efforts had failed to produce meaningful results.
“We have carefully observed the Governor’s various attempts to mobilise support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Unfortunately, these efforts have amounted largely to announcements without corresponding political impact,” Ijabiyi said.
He alleged that several support groups launched by the governor had become inactive shortly after their inauguration, while the Governor’s Advisory Council had remained ineffective.
According to him, the governor’s level of public engagement and political leadership ahead of the 2027 elections has fallen below expectations.
Ijabiyi further claimed that Aiyedatiwa was dissatisfied with the outcome of the APC’s candidate selection process for the National Assembly and State House of Assembly elections, following the emergence of candidates other than his preferred choices.
He also criticised the governor for recently hosting a prominent opposition senatorial candidate, describing the action as disturbing to many party loyalists after photographs of the meeting surfaced in the public domain.
The development adds to growing concerns over internal divisions within the Ondo APC as preparations intensify for the 2027 general elections.
