President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has assured members of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) that his administration is steadily stabilising the country and laying the foundation for lasting economic prosperity, despite the challenges arising from ongoing reforms.
The President made the remarks, while receiving a delegation of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. He acknowledged that the administration’s economic policies had imposed short-term hardships on Nigerians but maintained that the reforms were necessary to restore fiscal stability, strengthen public finances and create a more resilient economy.
Addressing the bishops, Tinubu said his government remains committed to improving security, expanding infrastructure, creating employment opportunities and attracting investment to drive sustainable growth.
He noted that the difficult decisions taken since assuming office were aimed at securing Nigeria’s long-term future, expressing confidence that the country was already witnessing signs of economic recovery.
The President also commended the Catholic Church for its contributions to education, healthcare, peacebuilding and humanitarian services across the country.
He urged religious leaders to continue praying for the nation while partnering with government to promote unity, social harmony and national development.
In response, the Catholic bishops reaffirmed their commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, justice and the welfare of Nigerians.
They also encouraged the Federal Government to remain focused on addressing the concerns of citizens, particularly rising living costs, insecurity and unemployment, while sustaining dialogue with critical stakeholders in the national interest.
