Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has urged Nigerians to reflect on the fleeting nature of life, wealth and material possessions, saying no one will leave this world with what they spent their lifetime acquiring.
Sani made the observation in a reflective message posted on his Facebook page, where he likened human existence to a temporary stay in a hotel.
According to the former lawmaker, a hotel guest enjoys access to a comfortable room, including a bed, television, refrigerator, wardrobe and other services. However, when the time comes to check out, the guest must leave everything behind.
“When you check into a hotel room, you’ll see the bed, the TV, the fridge and the wardrobe; everything is there for your comfort,” Sani wrote.
“There are also services you can get with a simple dial. The rule is that you can use everything there for the period of your stay, enjoy all the services, BUT when leaving, you cannot take anything from that room.”
Sani said the hotel analogy reflects the reality of human existence, stressing that everyone is only a temporary occupant of the world.
“That is somehow similar to our presence and exit from this World. We are all Guests,” he stated.
He noted that although people may have different experiences in life, including differences in wealth, status, privilege and longevity, the ultimate destination remains the same.
“Some have a longer stay and some have a shorter stay. Some are in Executive Suite and others are in single suite,” he said.
The former senator further warned against excessive attachment to material possessions, pointing out that death will eventually separate everyone from the things they spend their lives pursuing.
“We shall all die and leave behind those things we are dying for,” Sani stated.
His message serves as a solemn reminder that wealth, power and social status are temporary, while every human being is ultimately a visitor on earth with an uncertain departure date.
