VeryDarkMan Slams Ooni of Ife Over Viral Chat With King Mitchy, Warns Against Undermining Traditional Authority

On 27 February 2026, Nigerian online activist Martins Vincent Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), publicly expressed disappointment over an alleged WhatsApp conversation between the Adeyeye Ogunwusi and social media influencer King Mitchy. The chat, which circulated widely across social media platforms, appeared to show the Ooni commending King Mitchy’s work and encouraging further engagement, a development that shocked followers given the Ooni’s traditional authority in Ile-Ife.

VDM, who has a longstanding online feud with King Mitchy over allegations of social media manipulation and unverified claims about charitable projects, criticized the interaction as “concerning” and warned that such exchanges risk eroding respect for traditional institutions. Speaking via Instagram, he argued that online celebrity culture should not overshadow the centuries-old influence of Nigeria’s monarchs.

The incident has sparked intense debate across Nigerian social media, highlighting the growing tension between digital influence and traditional authority, and raising questions about how cultural heritage can coexist with modern online dynamics.
