A 45-year-old American man has been arrested for allegedly issuing multiple death threats against U.S. President Donald Trump via social media.
Authorities identified the suspect as Andrew Emerald, accusing him of making a series of disturbing posts on Facebook in 2025. In one of the messages, he allegedly claimed that Trump would be dead by 2026 or that he would personally carry out the act.
Prosecutors say Emerald also threatened to target Trump’s Florida residence, Mar-a-Lago, vowing to burn it down.
The United States Department of Justice confirmed that Emerald has been indicted on eight counts of interstate transmission of threatening communications. Each count carries a potential prison sentence of up to five years if he is convicted.
Officials noted that the case is part of a broader pattern of threats targeting the former president. In a separate incident, another individual was recently sentenced to more than two years in prison for making similar threats.
Trump himself survived an assassination attempt in July 2024 during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, where he was grazed by a bullet.
The latest development has renewed concerns about the rise of violent rhetoric on social media platforms and the real-world risks such threats can pose. Authorities continue to stress that online threats are treated as serious criminal offences, with significant legal consequences for offenders.
