The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has graduated 12,895 students across various undergraduate and postgraduate programmes during its latest convocation ceremony, with 168 graduates earning First-Class Honours, reflecting the institution’s continued commitment to academic excellence.
Speaking at the convocation ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oguejiofo T. Ujam, congratulated the graduating students and urged them to uphold the values of integrity, innovation and excellence as they embark on the next phase of their careers. He noted that the university remains committed to producing graduates capable of contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
A breakdown of the graduating class showed that 168 students obtained First-Class Honours, while thousands graduated with Second-Class Upper, Second-Class Lower and other classifications.
The university also conferred postgraduate degrees, including master’s and doctoral qualifications, on deserving candidates who successfully completed their respective programmes.
Professor Ujam further highlighted ongoing efforts to improve teaching, research, infrastructure and innovation at the institution despite prevailing economic challenges facing the country’s education sector.
He encouraged the graduates to become worthy ambassadors of the university by applying the knowledge and skills acquired to address societal challenges.
The convocation attracted government officials, members of the university community, alumni, parents and other distinguished guests, who celebrated the achievements of the graduating students.
The ceremony also featured the award of honorary degrees and special recognitions to individuals who have made significant contributions to national development and the advancement of education in Nigeria.
