United States President Donald Trump has reportedly called off a planned military strike on Iran after leaders of key Persian Gulf allies appealed for more time to pursue diplomatic negotiations aimed at easing tensions in the Middle East.
Washington, D.C. — Monday, May 18, 2026. Trump disclosed that the attack, which had reportedly been scheduled for Tuesday, was suspended following urgent requests from Gulf nations including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. According to the US President, ongoing discussions with Iran created an opportunity for diplomacy that could possibly prevent further military escalation.
Trump stated that although military options remain available, his administration is willing to allow more time for negotiations to continue. He warned, however, that the United States remains prepared for what he described as a “full, large-scale assault” if diplomatic efforts fail to produce meaningful results.
Reports indicate that tensions between the United States and Iran have intensified in recent months amid disputes over Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security concerns, and military activities around the Strait of Hormuz.
