Troops of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI have repelled an attack by suspected Islamic State West Africa Province fighters in Magumeri area of Borno State, killing scores of insurgents and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Sani Uba.
According to the statement, the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the Forward Operating Base in Magumeri during the early hours of May 7, 2026, but were met with what the military described as superior firepower from troops stationed in the area.
Although the attackers reportedly breached an isolated section of the camp, troops were said to have swiftly contained the assault and inflicted heavy casualties on the insurgents during the encounter.
The statement added that exploitation operations conducted after the attack revealed extensive blood trails and the recovery of bodies of slain terrorists, confirming the scale of casualties suffered by the attackers.
Troops also recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition abandoned by the fleeing insurgents.
The operation, however, recorded casualties among the military personnel, with two soldiers confirmed dead, while an officer and another wounded soldier are currently receiving medical attention and responding to treatment.
The military reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining ongoing counterinsurgency operations aimed at restoring peace and stability across the North-East region.
