Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralised a terrorist, rescued three kidnapped victims and destroyed a bandits’ camp during a clearance operation in Zamfara State.
The operation, conducted on June 12 across communities in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas, formed part of ongoing military efforts to combat banditry and other criminal activities in the North-West region.
According to an operational report released on Saturday, troops on fighting patrol along Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa axis made contact with terrorists in Yanbuki District of Zurmi Local Government Area.
A gun battle reportedly ensued, resulting in the death of one terrorist, while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.
The troops recovered a cache of items from the scene, including rifles, four loaded magazines, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.
The report stated that the troops later advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, where the fleeing terrorists abandoned their camp upon sighting the approaching soldiers.
Military personnel subsequently cleared and destroyed the camp to prevent its future use by criminal elements.
During follow-up operations in the area, three kidnapped victims were rescued and moved to a secure location for medical attention and further support.
The Nigerian Army reiterated its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorists and bandits across Zamfara State and other parts of the North-West until peace and security are fully restored.
