Troops of the Military Intelligence Brigade (MIB) under Sector 3 of Operation HADIN KAI, working alongside the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), have arrested a suspected informant linked to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Isa Janyu, was apprehended during an intelligence-led operation in the Kasuwan Shanu area of Monguno Local Government Area after security operatives allegedly traced his activities.
Security sources said preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect allegedly identified wealthy residents for ISWAP operatives to target for kidnapping and ransom operations.
Items reportedly recovered from him include a Tecno mobile phone, a knife, a comb, a mirror and ₦10,000 in cash.
The suspect, who is said to be from Arianna Mai Massallachi village in Kukawa Local Government Area, is currently in military custody while investigations continue.
Military authorities said the arrest forms part of ongoing operations to dismantle terrorist support networks and disrupt the flow of intelligence to insurgent groups operating in the North-East.
Although the security situation across the theatre has remained relatively stable, security agencies said troops have sustained offensive operations and remain on high alert to counter emerging threats in the region.
