A heartbreaking scene was captured on Monday, March 30, 2026, in Jos, Plateau State, as a distraught mother mourned her son who was shot dead during a deadly gunmen attack that terrorised the community late Sunday, March 29, 2026. The video, widely shared on social media, lays bare the unbearable human cost of Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity crisis.
Witnesses said the gunmen opened fire indiscriminately, leaving several residents dead or wounded and forcing terrified families to flee their homes. The slain teenager, confirmed by relatives, was one of the victims of the ambush that erupted in the Gari Ya Waye area of Angwan Rukuba.
This attack is the latest in a string of deadly raids that have engulfed parts of Plateau State, a region where weak policing and the proliferation of armed groups continue to expose civilians to violence. Community members and local leaders have condemned the killing, calling for decisive government intervention and improved security presence.
Plateau State authorities have yet to release a detailed official account, but urgent calls are rising for justice and stronger protection for vulnerable communities. For the grieving mother, the tragedy is personal; but for Nigeria, it is a chilling reminder of how ordinary lives are shattered when violence becomes commonplace.
