Another potential aviation tragedy has been averted in Nigeria after a Nigerian Air Force helicopter reportedly made an emergency landing in Makurdi, Benue State.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, around Utur Tse-Igboji in Bar Council Ward, along the Welfare Quarters–Mopol 13 Ring Road axis of Makurdi.
According to accounts from the area, the helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing on a farmland after reportedly developing a technical fault while in operation.
The emergency landing reportedly saved the lives of all personnel on board, with no fatalities recorded.
Residents of the community were said to have rushed to the scene after noticing the incident and assisted the Air Force personnel.
The development comes barely two days after a Nigerian Air Force aircraft crashed in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, in a separate incident that has raised fresh concerns over aviation safety and aircraft emergencies.
The Makurdi incident could have resulted in another major tragedy had the helicopter crashed in a populated area.
However, the emergency landing allowed the occupants to escape safely, with residents expressing gratitude to God for averting what could have been another devastating aviation accident.
Authorities are expected to provide further details on the circumstances surrounding the technical fault and the emergency landing.
