A political disagreement between two senior Kano APC figures, Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and House Committee on Appropriations Chairman, Abubakar Kabir Bichi, has been followed by a reconciliation brokered by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The meeting took place in Abuja in the early hours of Wednesday and lasted about two hours, according to the Kano State Government.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Yusuf called on Barau, Bichi and their supporters to end the dispute and work together for the interest of the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor warned supporters against verbal attacks and inflammatory comments.
“Henceforth, I do not expect any of your supporters to come out and abuse one another. We must put a stop to this unnecessary distractions,” Yusuf said.
He urged the two politicians to support Tinubu, the Kano State Government and other APC candidates, stressing that political disagreements should not threaten the stability of the party.
Yusuf further said party disputes should be addressed through dialogue and consultation rather than actions capable of deepening divisions.
“The APC remains one family, and all stakeholders have a responsibility to ensure that internal crises are resolved through dialogue, consultation and mutual respect,” he said.
The state government said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu endorsed the reconciliation process. Yusuf also assured the APC leadership and other stakeholders that Kano was prepared to work towards the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
Barau and Bichi, in turn, cautioned their supporters against actions that could worsen the disagreement and reaffirmed their commitment to the APC.
They also expressed appreciation to Yusuf for his intervention.
The reconciliation comes amid renewed efforts by the Kano APC to consolidate its structures ahead of the 2027 elections, with party leaders in Kano North recently calling for unity and warning against factional activities.
