President Bola Tinubu has formally ushered in a new leadership of Nigeria’s federal civil service with the swearing-in of Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
The ceremony took place at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, marking the official commencement of Enitan’s tenure at the helm of the federal bureaucracy.
Enitan’s swearing-in came one week after President Tinubu announced his appointment as the successor to Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the Presidency on August 19, 2026, announcing that Enitan would assume office on August 27.
The new Head of Service and Walson-Jack had earlier met with Tinubu at the State House on August 21 as part of preparations for a smooth transition between the two administrations.
With Thursday’s ceremony, Enitan has now officially assumed responsibility for coordinating and providing leadership to the Federal Civil Service.
His appointment places him at the centre of the administration of Nigeria’s federal bureaucracy, including efforts to strengthen efficiency, professionalism and effective implementation of government policies across ministries, departments and agencies.
The transition also formally brings Walson-Jack’s tenure as Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to an end.
