President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has received Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN), the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, following her historic emergence as the first woman to be elected to lead the association through a direct electoral process. The meeting took place on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, days after her victory in the NBA national election.
During the meeting, President Tinubu congratulated Badejo-Okusanya on her landmark achievement, describing her election as a significant milestone for Nigeria’s legal profession and a victory for merit, professionalism and gender inclusion.
He expressed confidence in her capacity to strengthen the Nigerian Bar Association and uphold the rule of law, justice and constitutional democracy.
Badejo-Okusanya, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), emerged victorious in the NBA presidential election after polling 12,317 votes, defeating Lateef Akangbe (SAN) and Olumuyiwa Akinboro (SAN).
Her election makes her the 33rd President of the Nigerian Bar Association and the first woman to attain the office through a direct electoral mandate, although Dame Priscilla Kuye previously served as the association’s first female president.
The visit underscored the importance of collaboration between the executive arm of government and the legal profession in promoting justice, democratic governance and institutional reforms.
Both parties reaffirmed the need to preserve the independence of the judiciary, strengthen the rule of law and advance legal reforms that will deepen Nigeria’s democratic institutions.
