President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria has approved the reappointment of Professor Ayo Omotayo as the Director-General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru.
The announcement was made on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, in an official statement.
The renewed appointment is for a final four-year term.
Professor Omotayo was first appointed as Director-General of NIPSS in November 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, and his appointment was confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in February 2022.
He is a professor specializing in Environmental Sustainability and earned his PhD in Geography from the University of Ibadan, where he studied from 1980 to 1990.
Omotayo began his academic career at Lagos State University in 1985 and advanced through the ranks, becoming a senior lecturer by 1992 at the age of 30.
During his tenure at the university, he served as Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences from 2012 to 2017 and also held the position of Director of the Centre for Planning before his appointment as Director-General of NIPSS in 2021.
The National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, located in Kuru, Plateau State, is Nigeria’s leading think tank and leadership training institution, tasked with conducting research and training senior public officials and strategic leaders.
