Tinubu Appoints Major General Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of retired Major General Adeyinka A. Fadewa as Special Adviser on Homeland Security.

The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation and signed by the Head of Information and Public Relations, Chris Ugwuegbulam.

According to the statement, the appointment reflects the administration’s commitment to strengthening internal security coordination, intelligence-driven operations and inter-agency collaboration in tackling emerging security threats across the country.

The circular conveying the appointment was reportedly signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, and issued by the Permanent Secretary, General Services Office, Ibrahim Abubakar Kana.

Major General Fadewa was described as a highly decorated retired military officer with more than three decades of experience in military operations, intelligence coordination, counterterrorism and international security diplomacy.

The statement noted that he served as Principal General Staff Officer to the National Security Adviser at the Office of the National Security Adviser between 2015 and 2021, where he played a significant role in shaping Nigeria’s intelligence coordination framework.

He was also credited with spearheading the establishment of the Intelligence Fusion Centre at ONSA, an integrated multi-agency intelligence platform involving the Defence Intelligence Agency, National Intelligence Agency, Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Armed Forces.

Following his retirement from active service, Fadewa reportedly served as a Senior Research Fellow at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, contributing to discussions on policing, civil-security cooperation and national security reforms.

President Tinubu expressed confidence that the retired general’s experience and strategic expertise would strengthen the administration’s efforts toward improving homeland security, intelligence integration and proactive risk management in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
