Former Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Timi Frank, has alleged that there are plans by security operatives to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Frank made the allegation in a statement issued early Monday, claiming he received information from sources suggesting that operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) could attempt to take El-Rufai into custody during his appearance before Justice M.B. Idris.
According to Frank, the alleged move forms part of what he described as a broader political attempt to silence the former governor.
“Pursuant to what appears to be a grand plan by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to politically eliminate Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I have been reliably informed that plans have allegedly been concluded by the DSS to forcefully take him into custody today from the Federal High Court, Abuja,” he said.
He further claimed that such an action would contradict existing court directives allegedly ordering that El-Rufai remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) pending the determination of matters before the court.
Frank also alleged that security operatives held meetings overnight to finalise plans surrounding the reported operation.
The political activist warned against any action capable of escalating political tensions, insisting that El-Rufai must not be harmed or subjected to what he termed political persecution.
“It is becoming increasingly obvious that he is being treated as a political target of the current administration,” Frank stated.
He added that the President, security agencies, and the Kaduna State Government should remember that “power is transient and nothing lasts forever.”
Frank further expressed fears that if alleged plans to permanently silence El-Rufai fail, authorities might resort to prolonged detention until after the 2027 general elections.
He also criticised Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, saying the governor appeared to be associated with actions many consider inconsistent with democratic principles and the rule of law.
The former APC spokesman called on civil society organisations, religious leaders, northern stakeholders, and the international community to closely monitor developments surrounding the case.
While reiterating his support for anti-corruption efforts, Frank stressed that such actions must be carried out within the bounds of fairness, justice, and due process.
He also referenced the famous warning by German pastor Martin Niemöller on the dangers of silence in the face of perceived injustice.
Frank concluded by insisting that if anything happens to El-Rufai, both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani should be held responsible.
