The Chairman of Zaki Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Masud Aliyu Umar, has died in a road accident while returning from an Allied Peoples Movement (APM) stakeholders’ meeting in Bauchi.
Reports by Intel Region, Vanguard and the Guardian said the accident occurred on Sunday night, November 1, at Konkiyal Village in Darazo Local Government Area, approximately 100 kilometres from Bauchi metropolis. Umar was reportedly travelling back to Zaki when his private vehicle crashed.
Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, expressed sadness over the chairman’s death, describing him as a dedicated public servant and grassroots politician whose contributions to community development would be remembered.
In a condolence message issued through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor recalled Umar’s previous service as Director-General of the Bauchi State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), where he contributed to emergency response, disaster management and humanitarian interventions.
Mohammed also praised Umar’s commitment to grassroots development during his tenure as Zaki council chairman, particularly efforts aimed at youth and women’s empowerment, improved livelihoods and inclusive growth.
Umar was elected chairman of Zaki Local Government Area in August 2026, making his death a significant loss to the council and Bauchi State’s local government administration.
His funeral prayer was scheduled for Monday, November 2, at the Palace of the District Head in Mur Mur, Zaki Local Government Area.
