Three Face Trial Over Killing of Former OGTV Broadcaster, Security Guard

The Ogun State Police Command on Monday arraigned three suspects before a Magistrate Court in Abeokuta over the alleged murder of former Ogun State Television (OGTV) broadcaster, Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo.

The defendants were brought before Magistrate Court 3 in Isabo, weeks after detectives uncovered what police described as critical evidence linking them to the killings that sparked outrage across the state.

Confirming the arraignment, the command said the prosecution followed the conclusion of preliminary investigations into the incident, which occurred at Oyesiku’s residence in Abeokuta.

The case first came to light after residents alerted security agencies to unusual activities around the property. Police officers who responded reportedly found Adetayo dead at the security post before discovering Oyesiku’s body inside the house. Her Lexus RX330, initially declared missing, was later recovered during the investigation.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, detectives recorded a major breakthrough after forensic analysis of material recovered from the stolen vehicle led investigators to the principal suspect.

Police identified him as 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, who was arrested at a construction site in Ibara, Abeokuta. Further investigations resulted in the arrest of Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36.

Investigators alleged that Philip admitted planning the attack over grievances arising from his previous employment as Oyesiku’s security guard. Police also claimed the suspects overpowered Adetayo before gaining access to the residence where the two victims were allegedly murdered.

The command said intelligence-driven operations later led to the recovery of the missing Lexus vehicle, while detectives also seized exhibits, including a hammer, a cutlass, a wooden plank and other items believed to be connected to the crime.

Police maintained that investigations remain open to determine whether other persons were involved, assuring that everyone linked to the case would face prosecution in accordance with the law.

The command also reiterated that, despite the allegations against the defendants, they remain entitled to a fair hearing as the judicial process unfolds.
