United States Congressman, Riley Moore, has warned terrorists operating in Nigeria that attacks against Christians would attract serious consequences from the administration of US President, Donald Trump.
Moore made the statement during an interview on NewsNation with anchor Anna Kooiman while discussing security cooperation between Nigeria and the United States.
The Republican lawmaker praised Trump for approving the recent joint Nigerian-American military operation that reportedly killed Abu-Bilal al-Minuki, said to be ISIS’ second-in-command globally.
Speaking on insecurity and religious persecution in north-eastern Nigeria, Moore said the US government remained committed to protecting Christians facing attacks from extremist groups.
“President Trump is laser focused on defending our Christian brothers and sisters in Nigeria against the slaughter and martyrdom they’ve faced at the hands of radical Islamic terrorists,” Moore said.
He added that the strike against Abu-Bilal al-Minuki was intended to send a strong warning to terrorist groups.
“Those who target innocent Christians will be hunted down and brought to justice. Do not test President Trump’s resolve,” he stated in a post shared on his X account.
Moore also disclosed that US involvement in Nigeria increased after Trump designated Nigeria a “nation of particular concern” over rising religious violence and insecurity.
According to him, Trump personally directed him to investigate the situation and monitor attacks affecting Christian communities in the country.
