Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Federal House of Representatives, becoming the latest entertainer to venture into Nigerian politics.
The actor made the announcement in a video circulating on social media, where he revealed plans to represent a constituency in Abuja at the National Assembly.
“I’m going for the Federal House of Representatives in Abuja, and we want to make a federal statement,” Ike declared in the video, expressing confidence about his political ambition and readiness to serve.
The development has generated reactions online, with supporters and critics weighing in on the actor’s transition from the entertainment industry into active politics.
Known for his prominent roles in Nollywood during the late 1990s and early 2000s, Emeka Ike built a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most recognisable actors, starring in several blockbuster movies that made him a household name across Africa.
His entry into politics reflects a growing trend of Nigerian entertainers seeking elective positions and using their public influence to mobilise political support. Over the years, actors, musicians and comedians have increasingly shown interest in governance, arguing that their visibility and connection with ordinary Nigerians position them to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Although the actor did not immediately disclose the specific constituency or political party platform he intends to contest under, his announcement has already sparked conversations about celebrity involvement in governance ahead of future elections.
