Tension in Osun as 12-year-old Allegedly Shot During APC Campaign

Tension has reportedly gripped Ilesa, Osun State, following the alleged shooting of a 12-year-old boy during an All Progressives Congress campaign rally on Saturday.

The boy was reportedly inside his mother’s shop when gunshots were fired during the campaign, leaving him injured.

An eyewitness who spoke with SaharaReporters alleged that the Chief Whip of the Osun State House of Assembly, Wale Akerele, was present at the scene alongside operatives of the Amotekun Corps when the incident occurred.

The eyewitness further alleged that the lawmaker and Amotekun operatives fired shots at some APC members during the incident, resulting in injuries to several people.

The 12-year-old boy was reportedly caught in the incident while sitting inside his mother’s shop.

“Scores of APC members also sustained injuries,” the eyewitness alleged.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, however, remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.

The incident reportedly sparked protests in parts of Ilesa, with residents demanding an investigation into the alleged shooting of the minor and the circumstances that led to the violence.

The condition of the injured boy and the exact number of people affected could not be independently verified.

A photograph obtained by SaharaReporters reportedly showed the boy lying on what appeared to be a hospital bed, suggesting that he had been taken for medical treatment.

Efforts to obtain reactions from the Osun State Police Command, the Amotekun Corps and the lawmaker were reportedly unsuccessful as of press time.

Authorities are expected to investigate the incident and establish what led to the shooting, while residents continue to demand accountability over the alleged attack.
