Afrobeats artiste, Wisdom Odigie Afelomo, popularly known as Wizzy Pro Max, has revealed how personal struggles and difficult moments inspired his latest single, ‘Eleda Mi’.
The Edo State-born musician said his journey in the Nigerian music industry has been characterised by challenges, learning and perseverance, but he has refused to allow the difficulties to stop him from pursuing his dream.
Speaking about the inspiration behind ‘Eleda Mi’, Wizzy Pro Max said the song came from his personal experiences and the moments when he had to encourage himself to keep going.
“My journey inspired me. I’ve experienced different challenges and moments that could have made me give up, but I kept reminding myself that I have to keep pushing and praying for grace,” he said.
The single features Gold Vibe and was produced by Starkid.
For Wizzy Pro Max, ‘Eleda Mi’ is more than another song released to the public. He described it as a reflection of his journey and the experiences that have shaped him.
“It’s not just about making music; it’s about sharing a part of my story,” he said.
The artiste disclosed that the song took about six months to complete, describing the recording process as one that required patience, adjustments and commitment.
He said he hopes listeners, especially those facing difficult periods in their lives, will find encouragement in the song.
“I want listeners to understand that they should never give up on themselves or their dreams. Life can be difficult, but you have to keep pushing, keep believing, and keep praying for grace,” he said.
Why ‘Eleda Mi’ is different
According to the singer, one thing that separates ‘Eleda Mi’ from his previous releases is its personal nature.
He explained that the song gives listeners an opportunity to understand some of the experiences that have influenced his life and career.
His songwriting, he added, usually starts with an emotion, experience or idea that he wants to express.
“I allow the feeling to guide me, then I build the lyrics around it and make sure the melody and words connect naturally,” he said.
Wizzy Pro Max also said his sound has become more intentional as he continues to develop as an artiste.
He wants to combine the sounds he naturally connects with while bringing more of his personal experiences and emotions into his music.
“I’m still evolving, and I don’t want to put myself in one box,” he added.
‘Talent alone is not enough’
Reflecting on the Nigerian music industry, Wizzy Pro Max described his experience as a mixture of growth, learning, challenges and perseverance.
He identified exposure and opportunities as some of the major difficulties confronting upcoming artistes.
According to him, Nigeria has no shortage of talented musicians, but talent alone does not always guarantee success.
He said consistency, resources, the right team and opportunities to reach a wider audience are also important.
The artiste also believes social media has changed the game for emerging musicians.
While it has made it easier for artistes to reach audiences around the world without the backing of major record labels, he said the competition for attention has also become intense.
“You have to constantly create, connect with your audience, and still make music that has lasting value,” he said.
Fans connect with his message
Wizzy Pro Max said the reaction to ‘Eleda Mi’ has been encouraging, particularly because listeners have connected with the message behind the song.
He said some of the feedback that has stayed with him came from people who told him his lyrics reflected what they were experiencing.
For him, that is one of the most rewarding aspects of making music.
“Music is more than entertainment,” he said, stressing that songs can speak to people and provide encouragement during difficult moments.
‘Different Shades’ EP coming soon
The singer also disclosed that he is preparing to release a three-track EP titled ‘Different Shades’.
He said the project will reveal different sides of his personality and artistry as he continues to establish himself in the industry.
Wizzy Pro Max also revealed that he has his eyes on collaborations with some of Nigeria’s biggest names.
He listed Wizkid, Fola and Simi among artistes he would love to work with, describing them as musicians whose work he admires.
Beyond collaborations, he hopes to perform across Nigeria and eventually take his music to international audiences.
Why he could have become an engineer
Interestingly, music was not his only career option.
Wizzy Pro Max has a background in Electrical Engineering and revealed that he would probably have pursued the profession if music had not become his chosen path.
Away from the studio, he enjoys football, wrestling and boxing, while also spending time with people close to him.
He described himself as a reflective person who often thinks deeply about his experiences and things happening around him.
Those thoughts, he said, frequently find their way into his music.
As he prepares to unveil ‘Different Shades’, Wizzy Pro Max says fans should expect more music, growth and a different side of his artistry.
For now, his message remains simple: keep believing, keep pushing and never allow a difficult season to convince you that your story is over.
