A legal practitioner, Tope Temokun, has petitioned relevant authorities over the alleged assault of a woman, Mrs. Oladipupo Taiwo, by operatives of the Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, in Akure.
In a public statement issued on Thursday, the lawyer disclosed that formal petitions had been submitted to the Ondo State Governor, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo (SAN), as well as the leadership of the Amotekun Corps, demanding justice over the incident.
Temokun alleged that the victim was subjected to a brutal assault by the operatives during an encounter in Akure, noting that the attack nearly resulted in the loss of her sight.
He stated that the petitions called for an immediate and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, the return of the victim’s phones allegedly seized during the encounter, as well as adequate compensation and medical support.
The lawyer further expressed concern over what he described as the initial response of denial and intimidation faced by the victim when she attempted to seek redress.
According to him, the case goes beyond the individual involved and raises critical concerns about accountability, professionalism, and respect for human rights by security agencies in the state.
He stressed the need for urgent reforms within the Amotekun Corps to prevent what he termed recurring cases of abuse.
Temokun added that his chamber would continue to monitor the situation and pursue all lawful avenues to ensure justice is served.
As of the time of filing this report, the Amotekun Corps had yet to officially respond to the allegations.
