Suspected Thugs Disrupt Peter Obi’s Visit to Cross River, Attacked Convoy

The visit of Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to Cross River State was reportedly disrupted on Wednesday after suspected thugs allegedly attempted to attack his convoy in Calabar.

Obi was in the state capital alongside his wife, Margaret, and running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, for a town hall meeting when the incident occurred.

His media aide, Ester Umoh, raised the alarm in a social media post, alleging that hoodlums were attempting to attack the campaign convoy.

“Thugs are trying to attack our convoy,” Umoh wrote.

The incident has renewed concerns over the safety of political candidates and their supporters during public engagements ahead of the 2027 general elections.

It also represents another reported security disruption involving Obi’s political movements in recent months.

In September, suspected thugs reportedly blocked Boko Road in Benue State, near an Air Force base, in an attempt to prevent the former presidential candidate from entering the state.

However, details surrounding Wednesday’s incident, including the identities of those allegedly involved, the extent of the disruption and whether anyone sustained injuries, were not immediately available.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Cross River State Police Command nor the state government had issued an official statement on the alleged incident.
