The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a 26-year-old man, identified as John Butren, for allegedly attacking another resident with a machete during a violent altercation in Owo, Ondo State.
The incident, according to police authorities, occurred on May 20, 2026, at Alajawo Camp in Owo, where the suspect allegedly inflicted severe machete injuries on a 30-year-old man, Moses Paul.
Police sources disclosed that the victim sustained deep cuts on the head and shoulder during the attack, leaving him with serious injuries that required urgent medical attention.
The case was reportedly brought before authorities by one Esther Agunloye, who lodged a complaint at the A Division Police Station in Owo shortly after the incident.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Ondo State, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives immediately commenced investigation after receiving the report.
Jimoh revealed that officers recovered the cutlass allegedly used in carrying out the attack during preliminary investigations.
He said, “The injured victim was immediately evacuated to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he is currently responding positively to treatment.”
According to him, police investigations also indicated that the suspect allegedly confessed to the crime while being interrogated.
The police spokesperson further disclosed that Butren had been formally charged before a court and subsequently remanded at the Owo Correctional Facility pending further legal proceedings.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Felix Ohagwu, reiterated the command’s determination to tackle violent crimes and ensure peace across communities in the state.
He urged residents to avoid taking laws into their hands and instead adopt lawful channels for resolving disputes and misunderstandings.
Ohagwu also appealed to members of the public to continue supporting security agencies through timely and credible information capable of assisting efforts at preventing crime.
He stressed that the cooperation of residents remained essential in strengthening security and maintaining public safety across Ondo State
