ILAJE, ONDO STATE — Is the 28.5-kilometre Aboto–Atijere Road Project abandoned or ongoing? A Starnews NG visit to the site has provided fresh insight, with contractors observed working on different sections of the road on Saturday.
During a site visit on Saturday, October 3, 2026, our correspondents observed contractors working at several points along the route, with machinery and personnel deployed across different sections of the project.
The road has also become more accessible in some areas. The Starnews team travelled along the route in standard vehicles, although sections of the road remain under construction.
Site engineers and project managers said the contractor was working towards meeting the December completion deadline set by the Ondo State Government.

Speaking during the visit, Engr Oguntimehin Olusegun Femi dismissed reports that the project had been abandoned. “Those saying the road has been abandoned are playing politics. The Governor is working, and we can see it. Anyone who doubts what is happening should come to Ilaje and see it for themselves,” he said.
The Aboto–Atijere Road is expected to improve connectivity among coastal communities and support the movement of people, goods and agricultural produce. Work on the project is ongoing under the administration of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, Starnews NG can report.
